This year the world marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking for the 31st time. Taking into account international dimension, cross-border nature and organized character of drug-related crimes the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic takes drastic measures to combat it. All forces and resources of law enforcement bodies are engaged including forces and instruments of the State Customs Committee of the Republic.
During almost six months of 2018 customs bodies of the PMR repressed more than 10 drug smuggling attempts in the course of customs control and operational actions carried out on their own and in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies. Narcotic substances, psychotropic and other potent substances (significant quantity of marijuana, almost half a kilo of the synthetic drug N-Methylephedrone, more than 24 kilograms of marijuana seeds, about 100 tablets of “Rinostop”) were withdrawn from illicit circulation.
In previous years narcotic substances were overwhelmingly seized while trying to be imported to the PMR from border areas of the Republic of Moldova, but since the beginning of this year the growth of drug trafficking has been recorded from Ukraine. Thus all five facts of drug smuggling recorded for this period at customs check point “Pervomaysk” were connected with importation of narcotic substances from this neighboring state.
Structural units of the State Customs Committee of the PMR take specific measures to ensure border security, enhance efficiency of customs control aimed at prevention of illicit drug trafficking. Great attention is paid to implementation of operational analytical methods, as well as improvement of operational search training of customs officers and cooperation with Russian colleagues and domestic law enforcement structures.
